Artist Bio:
Alan McNiel has worked as an independent artist for over 40 years, exhibiting in galleries, museums, fine arts festivals, and auctions throughout the west. His paintings are found in numerous public and private collections β including Montana State University, Washington State Percent-for-Art, University of Washington Medical Center, City of Seattle, and University of Montana School of Law. Recent solo exhibitions include Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, Hockaday Art Museum, and Clymer Museum of Art. Alan McNiel is an alumni of Colorado State University (BFA) and the University of Montana (MA). His studio is located near Troy, Montana.
I think of my work as contemporary western. Sometimes it is more western, with images of western towns and landscape. Other times itβs more contemporary, with mixed-media urban landscape and whimsical creatures.
My most recent group of paintings is the Balance Series. This is based on the idea that balance is so basic itβs easy not to notice, at least until it goes missing. With these paintings Iβm having fun with the birds, and some of the choices we all get to make.
